Day5

With the heads off, I went back to the front of the engine and removed the timing belt and water pump..

Since I had already taken off the flywheel, I needed a way to lock the crankshaft so I could remove the "Jesus" bolt. My Chebby book recommended wedging a 2x4 between the crank. I was a little skeptical about this but after confirmation from a number of people, I went ahead and did it...

I used a 1/2" 27mm socket and a 24" breaker bar. Luckily a friend was by who gave me a hand. Otherwise I think I'd still be trying to get it off.

The harmonic balancer was very hard to remove - I got it off by lightly tapping it every 90 degrees and walking it off.

Here I remove the allen bolt that holds the tensioner arm on.

Water pump is off! Man there are a lot of bolts holding it on.

The timing belt crank gear was pretty easy to remove.

I'm not sure what this roller is called exactly, but removing the snap ring from it did NOT let me take it off..
Loading...
I had to remove the entire arm which was held on with two snap rings here.

I attempted to remove the oil pump next but was unable to get it out, so I put the bolts back in for later.
